Faysal Islamic Bank guard decamps with Rs6.5m

KARACHI: A private security guard posted at Defense Commercial Area branch of a private bank has allegedly decamped with Rs 6.5 million and other precious articles after breaking into its vault reportedly comprising some 22 lockers in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to details shared with media by the area police, Manzoor Ali, a private security guard belonging to Rahimyar Khan serving at Faysal Islamic Bank as night guard allegedly looted the bank clients of their belongings including jewellery, prize bonds, certificates besides local and foreign currency.

Ten of the lockers were found to be opened through gas cutter application that could not be done single handedly hence must be a doing of an accused and his accomplice, the police personnel said.

Bank authorities were said to have confirmed that cash worth Rs 6.5 million was taken away while details of other looted goods could be ascertained only after essential confirmation of the concerned account holders.

According to bank officials, the service of Manzoor Ali was acquired through a private security guard company and that he was associated with the company for last five years and had been serving at affected branch for past few months. The heist was claimed to be the first major incident of its kind during the current year.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Dr Syed Kaleem Imam has ordered immediate inquiry and safe recovery of looted money as well as valuables along with arrest of the suspects following needed legal procedure.
